When this happens, two options can be run from this position. First, the high post player can make a pass to reverse the basketball to either the guard spot next to him, or he can allow a full reversal through the guard spot to the wing. The high post player will then cut hard to the low block, looking to receive the pass and use an inside move for a basket (Diagram 5-12). If the post player receives the pass in the low post and does not use an individual move to the basket, the offense has been transitioned from the high phase to the low phase. The low options were fully discussed in Chapter 4.

The second option that the high post player can do is dribble at the guard. If the guard’s defender is fully denying a pass from the high post to guard pass, the guard will backdoor cut (Diagram 5-13).
